Another humiliating climb down for this Tory Government.

To quote Morgan :::: "This was about the government listening, she said, adding ministers understood top schools should retain the choice on whether to convert"

Oh yes, the Government listened all right, but only to its own Tory Councils who objected, not the rest of us.

Of course its not humiliating...the only "humiliating" is you and youre now ever so boring repetition of news stories..

its on the national news and you just c & p it on here non stop , its like having deja vu

if youre non existant circus party ever get into any form of power i dont imagine theyd ever reverse any decisions...theyd just just carry on blindly like a blinkered carthorse
a good day to bury bad news. While everyone's looking at Corbyn and Goldsmith...

You're right that the plan angered Tories as much as Labourites, though.
ah, baz changing the subject instantly, I see!
Russell Hobby, general secretary of the National Association of Head Teachers said: "We are pleased the government has listened to the profession.

jno....I shall ignore the first post on here, but you have made a good point.

What I can't understand is why Morgan is still Education Secretary this evening.

She made a complete horses ass of herself on the Question Time, after the Budget, when the Government made another of its humiliating climb-downs, and I simply can't understand why this woman of so very little ability and talent is still on the Government front bench

The government might spend less time courageously and strongly reversing their positions if they had the right ideas in the first place.

jno...I have reported that for you !

Entirely predictable and inevitable.

///Changing all schools to Academies whill not happen.

Not because Labour or the NUT are against it. But because the Conservatives run the most Local authorities, and they are not happy about the change.

When 40% of county councils, 9000 Councillors and many Conservative MPs are against this proposal, then I am sure it will either be watered down, changed significantly, or kicked into the long grass. //

From quite an amusing thread after the climbdown

Mikey @ 17:30, don't you think it would be better to let people make up their own minds if they are offended or not. There's an awful lot of criticism online about folks being offended on behalf of others.
?!?

It's not bad news to be buried, it's good news to be shouted from the rooftops.

Now, at least in some schools, they who pays the piper calls the tune.
Question Author
Gromit....well predicted !

We here in Wales are not having these academies foisted upon us, due to devolution, but it would seem that in England, people should be grateful for Tory MPs and Tory Councilors putting the kibosh on this daft and entirely unnecessary idea.

Now... would you like to have a go at predicting how long Nicky will remain in her post ?
Why are the government not allowed to change their mind without it being classed as a 'climbdown' or a 'uturn'?

It shows that they are willing to go back and rethink ideas.

To me it shows just how petty people are!

Well spotted Islay.
Question Author
Islay....it shows to me that they hadn't thought out the idea properly in the first place.

If they had consulted their own Party Members, before announcing this in the Budget, they would have seen that this policy was doomed from the very start. Very poor planning and preparation by Dave.
Rubbish! they just can't go on what their ministers say they need to see how the public will take it!

Did you crow so loudly when Corbyn did a U turn on Europe?
