Tomorrow is Black country day ( an area of the West midlands ), the Black country has it's own flag designed by a twelve year old girl two years ago.
And now political activist Patrick Vernon OBE comes out with this load of tosh.

I laughed at this, tony, being from the black country. I love the flag and it represents the whole of the black country. I see the chain as not only reflecting back on the chain makers of the area but highlighting the multi-cultural aspect of the black country today.

But still, he has the right to air his opinion just as I have the right to laugh at it.

I'm sure you know the anchor and chains for the Titanic were made in the black country. :)

Got to admit his views of our flag are that crazy that I had to laugh when I read the article.
It is a splendid flag.

The implication is that chains are forbidden. He'll be having a go at Parliaments Portculis next.
mmm. from the david lammy "black smoke from the vatican chimney is crass and offensive" school of political correctness.

It takes a child to design a flag with forethought and meaning and a bigoted narrow minded man to warp it out of context.

Tell us a lot doesn't it?

Does this Patrick Vernon get paid to dream up this tosh ?.
I don't know about "offensive" it's bloody awful and should be condemned on aesthetic grounds alone. (One time Wolverhampton).
He's right. Ban the flag. Put Gracie in the stocks and pelt her with rotten yams for a day. And stop calling the Black Country black.
Question Author
(One time Wolverhampton).

So was Patrick Vernon !.
Patrick Vernon OBE (obnoxious Blinkin Ethnic)
// The flag owes its design to a quote made in 1862 by Elihu Burritt, the American Consul in Birmingham. He described the region as “black by day and red by night” — a result of the local furnaces giving out smoke and grime during the day and glowing by night. The flag background is therefore both black and red, with the chains showing a typical product manufactured in the area. The central white area represents the glass cone, a symbol of the region's glass-making heritage since 1790. //

Perhaps Gracie should have drawn a Daisy chain? Far less offensive!
Question Author
Yes but not very representative of the Black country, Yilly.
If a person wants to be offended s/he will find something to be offended by. It's a great pity this man didn't study the history of where he lives.

I know, Yont but there must be some daisies in your garden.
Question Author
There most certainly isn't, I am meticulous in my lawn care don't you know ;-)
I'll bow out then, Yont.
