I'd have gone for designer too: "These designer gloves" is far closer to "these gloves made by a famous dressmaker" than "these designed gloves" is.

The adjectival definition matches the clue almost perfectly; "designed" as an adjective means "made with intent", etc.

Don't toss a coin, mcnal -- designer is surely far, far closer to the clue than "designed" is. The specifics about a famous dressmaker implies "designer" (which you can't use as an adjective outside fashion), compared with "designed", which could be "made (by, e.g, a dressmaker, or equally a carpenter or inventor, or any other profession)".

Designer is just a far, far better answer here.
