Thinking Of Swapping Internet Provider To Plusnet, Any Coments?

I'm thinking of dropping current provider and going to another, faster and maybe better internet provider. Who are you with and would you recommend them for speed/quality/price/customer service ?

We're with BT, fast connections, no problems. Customer service has been good when we've needed it.
Swapping ISP will not give you faster service unless you change from copper to All ISPs except Virgin use the same cables to your house, so changing IP will not necessarily increase your speed. The only way to increase your speed is to change to a fibre-optic service, such as Virgin or your current ISP will almost certainly have a fibre upgrade at a cost.

We are with Virgin good fast connections no problems. Can't really tell you the cost as we have tv package, house phone, Internet and mobiles with them, but I think the Internet is around £17 a month
BT Infinity. Excellent service and if you have a problem you get someone who speaks English on the end. Only trouble was the lad who came to set it up was a Contractofor Openreach and didn't know what he was doing. Had my husband not been an Electronics Engineer we wouldn't have been without Broadband till someone else came.
it partly depends where you are; you might do best to ask neighbours who's getting good service and who isn't.
BT infinity here to, no problems with it ( at the moment ).
By the way Iggle Piggle, I believe that Plusnet belongs to BT.

I know Linda, I had to tell the sub-contracted engineer Talktalk sent what to do to find the fault on the line! Scary times.
Iggle Piggle - the subcontractor that came to your line was almost certainly from BT Outreach since they own all the lines except Virgin.
Remember that whoever you have to provide your broadband will have to use the BT phone line ( except of course Virgin) so any future problems, you would have the tiresome task of proving who is at fault Plusnet or BT & believe me each will try & pass the buck.

Probably was BHG, he arrived in a plain white van and was not wearing any sort of uniform so I asked for ID badge. I think it did say openreach or similar on it. He was certainly under-trained !
bhg's post up there is most important, the speed you get will not differ much unless you switch to fibre-optic whatever the provider and asking neighbours is a good idea. Also agree that unless you are with Virgin all line engineers are BT Openreach whatever your provider. I'm with Talktalk and like most they are fine when they work. The call centre in India is a huge disadvantage IMO.
Another thing to ask yourself is why you want the extra speed. What do you use the internet for? If it's just general browsing, using AB etc, you may not notice a marked improvement in your speed because actually making the connection to the website defines your speed. If you download movies etc then you will notice a marked improvement as the data from the site is streamed to your computer.
Last week I took my laptop down to my daughter's for the day and used her internet. I felt the speed was about the same as mine (I'm on on fibre) and realised that she wasn't on fibre. I checked her speed using one of the common speed-check sites and it was about 11Mbs - mine is about 38Mbs.

Actually BHG I just want an internet speed that is usable. The speed we have now makes me give up even waiting for a simple .GIF to load up. I work from home sometimes and want to email documents back and forth between offices.
Plusnet is a subsidiary company of BT.
That's a good reason for a faster line Iggle Piggle, but you'll need to go fibre-optic to achieve it. Your least-intrusive way of doing it will be to get TalkTalk's fibre-boost.
Just swapped from EE to BT fibre. No problems (apart from the instructions not being clear as to which socket to plug into on an ASDL socket). Getting approx 35mb download and 6mb upload speeds.
