according to my book it's either or
A dingle is a deep hollow, usually wooded, ie a dell - except in Yorkshire where the word is used (so I understand) to describe a deep narrow cleft between hills, ie something nearer to a dale. So, unless there is evidence that the setter is from Yorkshire, it will be 'dells'.
