Gribble, I'd love some help, please. Perhaps hints as to which word must be removed, and where the definition lies etc. rather than outright answers. Thank you.

A few that might help:

3dn definition's as the front, so that "in charge" = IC as usual to finish the grid entry; extra word is one of "our informal chef".

25dn: "cross" as in an animal that's a cross, where one of the letters is a g. then ends in an S, so that the final "grand" is the extra word.

26dn definition is "fauna and flora"; think of a word meaning "searching" that begins in H.

16ac League is the extra word; definition is "computer unit". About is a reversal indicator.

22ac has an anagram.

You're welcome -- incidentally the extra words from 16 and 22 are paired, so that you might be able to discover the theme which will help finding other extra words etc.

jim360, I had another look and thanks to your answer 'krais' (bringing my grand total of answers to 9) and extra word 'father' I noticed that it paired with extra word in 25a, and guessed some of unclued entries, I now have a full grid, just last bit to do, thanks again
