I can see that the missing letter is P and in the club is slang for pregnant. But in my dictionary, regnant is defined as reigning, ruling, powerful.

I have always believed that an answer in a cryptic clue needs to be defined somewhere. Where is regnant defined in the clue ? Or is this definition rule now no longer required ?
