I'm Dangerously Stressed And Frustrated

I am stressed and I know i am extremely stressed - enough to consider going to the doctor but he will only tell me to remove myself from the stressful situation but i can't / dont want to.

I explode at a seconds notice at inanimate objects - an example might be getting my coat caught on a door handle - I will rip my coat to shreds in temper rather than calmly extract it from the door. The temper a small issue like that creates is scary. 10 seconds later - it's over and back to 'normal'.
I only usually do this when i am on my own never(very rarely) with people around.
This will happen maybe 3-5 times a day when I feel that something happens that doesnt need to happen ( ie coat in a door handle).
I used to be in control and now dont feel I am - I just feel like its getting worse.
Bit of a long question but any suggestions / web sites etc?

back to gp im afraid. and repeat your symptoms.
I really think that you ought to see the doc Quoi, maybe the doc could refer you to some sort of specialist.
Deep breath and count to 10.
"the doctor but he will only tell me to remove myself from the stressful situation but i can't / dont want to"

And you know this how?

There are plenty of websites and self- helop books that can give you tips on how to manage your own response to stress, but it comes down to this - if you recognise the issue in yourself, but rule out a proper examination of why such issues cause your stress, or rule out a possible solution before even seeing someone - what possible help do you think you will get from here? Sound like you are in denial before anyone even starts to offer suggestinns to me....

ok - thanks for your answers so far.

I dont want to go to the doctor particularly - being direct its because its a form of defeat - dont ask me to explain that - its how it is.

This post is just a step for me because I have become more and more aware of how many times i lose my temper for small things.

If the doctor is inevitable then I will take that step - I just have a reluctance.
The doctor may advise you go to counselling. Is there something you can do to help you suck it up, my 7 year old has a hideous temper, he counts to 10 and by 10 he is calmer. However, with me I would get angrier by the time I had reached 10. I need to go and clean the kitchen to calm down.
Quoi, bite the bullet and go and talk to your doc.
//he [the doctor] will only tell me to remove myself from the stressful situation //

Why do you think he'll say that? I think it would be most unlikely. Make an appointment - and go!
@Quoi "I dont want to go to the doctor particularly - being direct its because its a form of defeat - dont ask me to explain that - its how it is."

I can to some extent understand your point of view - but again, being blunt, you are being defeated by your own reactions to stress at the moment, from your own words. Your wish to avoid defeat speaks to pride - not a good emotion with which to determine how you help yourself out.

A wise general knows when to take stock and marshall their forces and allies, regroup and fight the battle.
Perhaps you need a relaxing holiday.

Isthat an option?

Again, thanks for your answers

2 things - yes I have a reluctance to go to the doctors but please accept that with your answers - I will go as a last resort though - please accept that.

The count to 10 bit - I am raging before i get chance to think - its is aan instant response to a minor situation.

You might be able to imagine what I am like as a driver - I confess I get apoplectic with rage but I am not going to get out and hit anyone.
if it's escalating, you're not managing it alone. you could try relaxation techniques (meditation, etc) but I think you need professional help before something goes horribly wrong.
Two things can help with stress and that is sleep and exercise. No need to go to the gym just go for a quick walk around the block for 20 or 30 minutes.

Your decision. I have given you my advice for what its worth.

Thanks Coccinelle - strangely it doesnt affect my sleep - this is what might be a bit odd.
I do exercise a lot with digging allotments ( a lot more than i should really) so that is my therapy at the minute.

Its the flash temper i need some mechanism for.
As I am writing this I can feel that the next event - I will be able to stop and laugh and calmly remove the coat from the handle - but will I when it happens?
Question Author
Thanks LazyGun and the others who suggested the Doc - I appreciate it and I wont ignore it - I just wanted a possible alternative maybe before the doc has to be my only option.
Quoi, try hanging it on a coat hook instead of a door handle.
Perhaps you really do need to sort out the 'stressful situation' before it has more damaging health effects on you.
The right doctor will be understanding, not dismissive.
Ask around fellow patients or even a receptionist as to who might be the 'right' doctor to consult.
