18D. Starts as "contaminated" not Contained.Thats why I think the answer is Flyblown.Bryand

1a sapphire ('app' inside 'shire')
5a rapier (anagram of 'parried' without the 'd')
13a bone marrow ('barrow' around 'o' for old and 'men' backwards)
18d flyblown - 'fl' = fluid, 'by' upside down, 'lown' is odd letters of 'Lyon wine'
