Don't you just love it when you say something silly to someone who is maybe a little 'oversensitive' then you go out of your way to be as sincere and transparent as possible. Then the more you try to be as honest and clear as possible, you end up sounding more and more dodgy!
Oh well, I tried.

what, you mean like asking a rather portly but very un-pregnant lady when she's due?
Question Author
LM&O ! That'd do.
I think you resolved it OK :-)

I try Mamya, clumsily sometimes, but I try. It's the Aspergers kicking in!
WE know each other of old and am sure you never mean harm, as you say there are those more delicate than us - Aspergers ? are you serious ?
If so I do understand.
Question Author
I know what you mean :-/
As for Aspergers, I have through my life often been accused of making 'inappropriate' comments occasionally and scored 'borderline' on a standard test.

I accepted long ago that I am a bit of a 'misfit'.
I know exactly what u mean, I have a masters in it. I once introduced a lady to my husband by saying " this is Morticia" well she did resemble someone from The Adams Family but I did not mean to say it at all and getting out of that one took some digging out !
I once visited a house that my friends had recently moved into, and they were showing me around, and there was obviously a lot of work to be done, and the husband showed me the bathroom, and it was horrible, all beige and cream with a ghastly brown toilet with an awful transfer of flowers on the inside, and matching handbasin. Heavens! I said -what fun you'll have ripping this out and redoing it - its really ghastly!
The husband looked at me and said - Actually, we've just finished doing it up!
I swallowed a very hot cup of coffee extremely fast and exited.
But worse is to follow - I was having a dinner party several years later with about twelve friends, and after food and a fair amount of alcohol had been consumed we started talking about embarrassing situations we had find ourselves in, and I was t this story and got half way through and realised that the couple were sitting at the table!
They are still friends, but I haven't seen them for a long time!
God, I do that on a daily basis. I call it foot in mouth disease.
Tee hee. Lovely to think I am not the only one who does and says daft things. Last one, to lady in weight watchers - "You have lovely hair - you are very pretty, when you lose some weight you will be really beautiful." I thought I was encouraging her to lose weight but my daughter thought it was very thoughtless and embarrassing. Must try to keep tongue between teeth and not let it flap all over the place.
I once had a line manager with an unusual name that spellcheck used to try and change to Vermin.............I introduced him to a meeting room full of BT middle-management as Vermin :-(
Fredkins thread AP? ........you have to be very choosy with dodgy replies, some don't get the humour in a post and others just refuse to get the humour.

Some toe curlingly cringy stories there!
Yes indeed Mick, I wondered which one it was there.
Some years ago we had a young Welsh couple as neighbours. They were very nice but at a street party for the wedding of Charles and Diana, they mention they were going back to Wales.
"Oh good," says big mouth, "you do let the neighbourhood down."
I said it in all good fun but, unbeknown to me, they took it seriously and they moved before I could apologise.
That's the problem with the written word....it can easily be misconstrued.

That's nice to know Headwreck, I know I can be a bit clumsy sometimes and can get a bit fixated. I'm happy with the way things turned out.
