Is The New Link To Fb Stopping You Posting More Detailed Or Intimate Questions?

Just been reading a few threads that hint a few posters are now reticent to post more personal problem questions on here for fear of them being put on the AB Facebook page. I stopped my self posting a family problem this morning just in case it was put up on FB and someone came across it (highly unlikely I know but very embarrassing if it did). I don't mind other posts put wherever, it is a public forum, but relationship posts where personal details are given, not sure...any thoughts?

The FB link is a link to the questions........not the user.

I don't see the problem. Post it on here, post it on FB, they're both public forums..................
yes.
I wouldn't dream of posting personal stuff ANYWHERE on the internet.

yes jack That thread has been done to death, but needless to say I've read on hear today at least two posters asking for throwaway emails to reply privately to questions because they are afraid to answer on the forum in case it gets published. The FB page links to the question poster and if certain facts add up it would be possible to put 2 +2 together and get 22.
all your posts on AB can be found quite readily using Google
I'm with you Woofgang
This forum advises against putting up 'proper' e-mail addresses as once posted, they are visible for all time.
There are loonies who use this site who *will* store such details away.......

Those users you mention obviously are as confused about the FB matter as you yourself.
Here we go again...

Don't post private stuff anywhere if you are worried it may come back and bite you on the arse. It just takes common sense to know how to behave online.
Nope, not in the slightest. I very much doubt anyone would trawl though all my 'likes's, then look them up, then try to find out if I post there.

bibblebub: Thing is there are squillions of FB users who link into one another s profiles. I'm not a great user of FB but just looking at the 'friends in common' thing that comes up its amazing how many of my friends are friends of my friends friends if that makes sense.... AB has thousands (generous i think) of users a month not millions and most people I know have not heard of it - so the chance of someone stumbling on something randomly is very very low. I'm not sure if I aired a problem on AB involving a family matter that someone on FB might think 'oh that sounds familiar'.
The FB page only links back to AB. If you have liked the AB page or friended the AB page then your FB ID will appear in the list of likes and friends on the AB FB page and if you use the same avatar, or your user name is similar to your real name, then yes, people might be able to identify who you are on FB.
Given that anyone on the net can view AB and copy paste the thread address into any other website that they care to, or copy paste any text from AB that they choose, then I really don't see what the issue is with FB.
What i do think is that "that thread" has woken some folk up to the fact that the internet is not private and they are taking more care generally.
Why is it a 'new link', it's been happening for ages hasn't it?

just to say I had no intention of starting up the FB security thread -just wondered if anyone was having second thoughts. I know a few are as I've read it on other threads.
In fact, I get secretly chuffed when I see one of my threads on my FB newsfeed (sad or what), I've also been alerted to some that I've missed here.
"Why is it a 'new link', it's been happening for ages hasn't it?"

Yes. Jane doesn't understand nor wants to understand. :)
As we said elsewhere, we don't generally post questions which could be damaging if family saw it... It's always harmless stuff.

The only way that somebody would come across it is if they were following AnswerBank on Facebook. They wouldn't come across it just because they were friends with you on Facebook. They would have to be following AnswerBank, specifically.

It's unlikely that such an intimate thread would be put up on Facebook. It strikes me that MOST threads aren't put on Facebook, and MOST of the ones that are put up are quiz questions, jokes or "nice" threads.

It's therefore more likely, if anybody was going to find an intimate thread and correctly associate it with you, that they would find it on AB itself - not Facebook - and it would be some element of your AB persona (user name, avatar, post history) that gave away your true persona. Facebook is almost nothing to do with it. Take care on AB, and it will naturally follow that you're taking care on Facebook.
I have always thought that anything I post here is something I would happily discuss with my neighbour or someone is the bus queue. Not quite sure how folk think 'here' is more private than anywhere else.
