thanks for the help, I did think of dunny but I always thought that was an outside loo in Australia!

Nungate, it is. Has a different meaning in Scotland though.
That is not a meaning of 'dunny' I was familiar with. Learn something every day!

I'd not heard of it (other than the loo) before tonight either. Must confess, I Googled it for you. :o)

Dunny: a cellar or underground passage in a tenement: storing things in the dunny.

[In Australian English, a dunny is a toilet, often originally an outside one].
