I'm battling along with this and enjoying it. But I'm really stuck on:
Clearly, road to autonymous region is alas no more (9)
It will begin with V W X Y or Z and I think the other letters are: _ECLA_EAR
After that I've only got four more answers to confirm, so wish me luck!

Not 100% on this, but if you look up "alas" in Bradfords, it comes up with "wellanear", so maybe check your "c". I've solved about 2/3 of the clues but apart from the 13 letter one, have not managed to fit any in the grid yet. Have no idea of whats required re. the theme. Any hints would be welcome.

Hi Ripper. I have same same answer as Judypark to that one. If you have now numbered the cells in your grid in the usual way I think it fits at 17D. Knowing me this could be wishful thinking as that placement only fits with one of my other answers so far. If I'm wrong could someone put me right please?

As for filling in the grid
The first & second across clues are 'delights' found in 'paradise'
the next across (first one on the second line) is the second clue (in the order they are given, if you see what I mean)
1 down is the forth clue.
Hope that makes sense!
The theme is a song and was used (with slight changes) in a Burger King advert.
