Boatlady it is better if you give the full clue i.e somewhere in the himalayas is missing from your clue.

The full clue was "a certain stone is repeatedly defaced somewhere in the Himalayas"
Nepal was the right answer.
A certain stone = One Opal. Deface the two words and you get ne pal.
Nepal is in the Himalayas
