Hi all, I've been a member on here for over 6 years, and it that time I've read about people being banned and people coming back with a different identity, but how do you know these things? Also why do people get banned?

People get banned for contravening the rules of the AB - which are published and a consition of joining and posting.

People returning under a new name who use the same IP address can be detected by the Editorlal team, and are consequently re-banned - if their previous and continued contravention does not flag them up for attention first.

People get banned for regular and persistent posts which cause offence, for whatever reason. Pick any post and click its Report link for some examples.

As to how people recognise returning banned users, the vast majority of them announce their return on Facebook and other places. Others give themselves away because they can't disguise their posting style.

1. The people who get banned and try to return are usually incapable of disguising themselves sufficiently or to alter their behaviour.

Missprim - have a look at the Site Rules , there's a link at the bottom of this page. If someone persistently transgresses, they get suspended or if it's bad/often enough, they get banned. We don't need rubbish stuff and trolls on this site - and if you haven't seen some of the foul stuff that people get banned for, be grateful...

Sometimes banned people can be identified by their style or the language they use.

The trolls post rubbish and often quite abusive stuff - just for the hell of it. Be glad you don't know about 'em!

A lot of them have a certain style that's dead easy to spot.

a troll is somebody who starts up some rubbish just for fun. They are just trying to make trouble and get their kicks out of winding people up. They dont usually survive on here very long thanks to the report feature and the fact they are easy to spot usually.

A word to the wise, though - Ed generally doesn't appreciate posts about banned / suspended users, especially those which discuss the reasons for the bannings and suspensions, so if this thread gets too specific, expect it to be removed...

There was someone who used to be on here, I can't remember her name but some people really seemed to love her but some said she said hateful things about us on Facebook. Surely you would have to know someones name to find them on Facebook and MarkRae said they announce on Facebook when they will be returning.

There are people who have given out a lot of personal information on here, missprim, they are not that difficult to find on FB if you know that.

Lots of regular users have each other's e-mail or are friends on FB. Not all banned users are trolls, sometimes they've just overstepped the mark once too often.

MarkRae I'm so glad I haven't experienced any of the nastiness as I would be very upset. In fact I'm upset now that some people might have said nasty things about me that I don't know about.
