What would you do if you won a crossword prize?

Accept the prize gratefully and then what? Would you keep on doing the same crossword every week or not? What are the odds that your luck would be in on another occasion? Or would you assume that even if it was `they` would discard your entry and pick another one because it wouldn`t look good for the same person to win twice? Or would you assume that nobody would notice the same name turning up? (I mean, after all, WHO looks at the names of the winners which is usually in smaller print!) And, lastly, does anyone have any idea about the number of entries for particular crosswords these days?

I won a dictionary on the Saga crossword, last year, I think it was. I still do the crossword and send it in. I also have wondered if the publishers note winners' names, and ensure that they do not win again. but, on the principle of nothing ventured, nothing gained, I still keep trying.

I would love to win a crossword though I never have. I would continue to enter because I like doing them and I am sure they would not discard picking someone because they had won before. Highly unlikely that they keep a record of who won and equally unlikely that you would win again! (IMHO)
I'd brag about it on here and would carry on doing the crossword.

They discard my entries anyway.

Like that answer: nothing ventured, nothing gained. And, have you ever, after working days on end on a particularly hard one, sent it in with a huge sigh of relief sure in the knowledge that, because you have answered it correctly, you are a certain winner!
I would keep on doing it and if I though I could not win again I would try not to get 2 down
I won the Scottish Daily Record £500 Crossword and to be safe now enter it under my daughters married name.
MsEVP, I am the eternal pessimist/realist, so I never assume that, even though I have solved a crossword correctly, I am bound to win. He who expects the worst shall not be disappointed.
won the scottish sunday post crossword in the 60´s. won 10bob

Thanks, I think we`re all agreeing that we would still keep on doing the same puzzle because we like it.
And, alba, I hope you are joking about your entries being discarded, crossword people should be of a higher calibre than that, don`t you think!
Has anyone won on the ITV Phone-in Quizzes with a free web entry? Doubt it!!
The only things I have ever won were down to slogans - 3 times.
I subscribe to Lovatts and enter the competitions every month. I won £100 just before last Christmas and£40 three months ago .

So Andrit, if you win again your daughter will keep the prize money?

I don`t agree with his pessimism but bookbinder has my best answer vote because of his play on words (answer + name)
I won the Sunday Express about 15 years years ago, I still keep doing though I've not won again, hope springs eternal and all that rubbish. In regards to the number of entries I read some where that for the Express Sunday and Monday £1000 both receive between 35-40 thousand entries per week
I was lucky enough to win the Guardian Prize crossword (and boy was I chuffed, my dad tried to win the Daily Express crossword for many years without success). Anticipating that you probably could'nt win twice, I entered using my brothers name & address and won yet again, (yes he did keep the prize). Nowadays I don't bother to enter as the prize is awful, having the kudos of winning it before I try and satisfy myself by completing it each week. It would be nice if the number of correct entries was given, if if only now and again!
I'd have the winners name [mine] enlarged and framed. I'd put the money
towards a holiday for Mr. Cupid and I.
Without wishing to brag, I've won the Guardian Prize crossword 12 or 13 times over the last fifteen years. I've also won the Observer twice, the Sunday Times twice, the Times once and the Telegraph runners up three times.

So if you win there's no reason to stop if you enjoy it. You can always give the prize away if you already have it. And I don't believe they keep a record of past winners and exclude them if they are drawn out again.

Is it possible, Obscurantist, that you are also a crossword compiler!
Iwon the DT sat £200 about 4 years ago was gobsmacked when I read it in print. I still send in but havent ever won anything again and have easily spent the same amount on paper & postage. I do the DR £500 but always enter it with a pal in bonny Scotlands name & address only once have I seen a non Scot be the winner, I shall give her half should I win, but I wont hold my breath.
