Bauk is correct
Bauk is not the right answer
B - british -- Auk - bird - diver
Sorry- maybe BAUK is right. B + AUK. No idea what it means.
Wire - Sewn...also correct
Question Author
In scots bauk can mean a patch in a cornfield left fallow-hence pass over.
Wire sewn looks good
Victory = win with 'we're' excited (mixed up) + s for son
I thought BAUK was something completely different- has anyone got access to an urban dictionary (my work computer won't let me access any sites containing this word!)
apparently in urban slang it's a very naughty word

I have iwis but can find no trace on google
'baUk' is as 'baLk' - "...pass over..."
IWIS seems fine
(I wish diminished)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iwi
iwi = tribe, so plural is 'i wis(h)' (Chambers)

Hi Li-inKing- I thought the spelling was baulk or balk rather than bauk
Hi factor - Chambers just shows "bauk, baulk - same as balk"
I'm not sure, tommy-h, why you seem certain you've gone wrong- we have agreed with the three answers you had come up with
