Knowing the person to whom the quote is attributed it is more than likely to be a Geordie term for 'food'

He probably speaking about curries and meant chutney, and spelt it wrong. Where I grew up in the NE of Scotlandia, a chunty was a word for a toilet, doesn't seem to make sense here though.
