I don't know, but considering how close Malta is to Italy, I'd bet it is actually an Italian name and pronounced exactly as you said.
As above, just watch the double \"r\" - you have to pronounce both of them a bit like \'car roof\'. So it might be better to think of it as Ser- ra - CHEEnoh - accent on the CHEE syllable.
