Foreign Word for Comic ( as in the visual medium )

I am trying to translate the phrase " football comic " into a number of languages ( as in a comic about football ). In Babel Fish i get a translation which comes out as " funny football".
I know comics are " Bandes Dessiness" in france . Can anyone help me with the word for comic ( as in visual medium ) in German, Italian, Spanish or Portuguese? airbolt (Tue 17:53 30/Jun/09)

You need to get away from the word COMIC, which suggests funny. The dictionary describes it as:
a magazine for young people with stories (about football) mainly in pictures.
It doesn't need to be concise, just so long as your description is clear and unambiguous.

Being fluent in German myself, I'd agree with BilSuth on this one. Leaving "football" out of it for a moment, the German for "comic" in the sense of a periodical is usually "comicheft" or "comicheftchen". The German for a comic newspaper is "bierzeitung"

However, it's not quite that simple. If the comicheft is substantial, it becomes a comicbuch, which translates as "comic book".

Furthermore, a series of comic strips stitched together to form a story is often referred to as a "comicstrip" (one word rather than two). An alternative word for a comic strip is "bildgeschichte"

Football in German contains an eszett, which cannot be typed on a conventional UK/US Keyboard. It translates as "Fuball" so a straightforward football comic would be "Fuballcomicheft"

I'll leave the other languages to those more proficient than me.

I find babel fish not very good, if you go to FreeTranslation.com you might find an improvement.
good luck
