Tipping in restaurants.

What is the word (possibly only used in USA) for collecting all the staff tips into one pot then distributing evenly amongst themselves. Thanks, Andy ACB312 (Tue 14:38 16/Jun/09)

It's called a tronc.

The word is derived from a French word meaning 'collection box' and a lot of restaurants use it as a fair way of sharing tips. The front-of-house staff receive the tips because they are seen by customers, but kitchen staff who contribute to the service are often missed out, so this is a fair way of using the tipping system.

Troncing works.

It means that even the sh!t, rude, surly, unhelpful waiters get an even share of the tips along with the helpful, happy friendly ones.
