End of the Day

Why do people insist on saying "at the end of the day" does it not annoy you? I mean why don't we say "at the start of the day" or something?

"after all" doesn't have the same meaning

I suppose it means that at the end of the day, after you've addressed the issue, discussed it, explored every avenue & mulled it over, it all boils down to whatever. You couldn't do all that at the start of the day.

I worked with an accountant that used that saying so much , I started using it.
