The Barn Owl is very widespread, and has several names apart from Barn: Monkey-faced Owl, Ghost Owl, Church Owl, Death Owl, White-breasted Owl, Hissing Owl, Hobgoblin or Hobby Owl, Golden Owl, Silver Owl, White Owl, Night Owl, Spirit Owl, Rat Owl, Scritch Owl, Screech Owl, Straw Owl, and Delicate Owl. It's been resident in Britain since at the very least Anglo Saxon times, so there may be archaic names for it but if so, I don't know what they are.
