Just watching The Producers on TCM (cable). Hilarious as ever, but either I'm getting old (no question) or there were bits missing.
I was sure there was a scene when somehow a neighbouring lot broke through into a Springtime with Hitler routine, and there was some sort of bizarre handbag fight between stormtroopers and gay dancers. But not in the version shown this afternoon.
All I can imagine is that it was cut because it was in poor taste (joke).
One of my favourite movies, but I can't help memory-wise. A bit of censorship wouldn't surprise me. Sad, really. Mel Brookes didn't give a toss for good taste.
It is the final scene in 'Blazing Saddles'. 'Spring Time for Hitler' is in 1967's 'The Producers'. Another anti Nazi satire by him is 'To Be or Not to Be' (with Ann Bancroft) altho' it is derived of course from the Lubitsch film.
