I have been wearing the horrid neck brace for nearly 3 weeks now.
I had an appointment with a neurosurgeon today and he told me I will have to wear if for another 6 to 12 weeks. It is driving me insane as I cannot wash my hair and can only eat food that is cut up to pieces the size of a sultana. I also have a dental problem that needs sorting but there is no way I can go to the dentist.
He showed me a picture of the scan and I didn't realise that my vertebrae (C2, second from the top) is actually fractured in TWO places - one on the wing bit and one on the bit right next to the spinal cord.
I do know how very lucky I am to still be alive, but this brace is absolute torture.
Moan over with!

Just wish you all the best, Mrs O xx how is your daughter doing? Xx
Poor you, I hope you can get rid off it soon.
Are you able to use a dry shampoo? Could one of your family apply it and brush it out?

Thanks Psybbs. I am using sensodyne and oil of cloves and both are doing a good job xx
Poor you mrsO. Can u lie at foot of bed so your hair hangs over & can be shampood in a bucket? Dental chairs support necks dont they? A blender might help foodwise. Wishing you a luck & good strong recovery x
mrs overall if you can get someone to go to the chemist get the to get you orajel its brilliant you won't feel anything for a couple of hours.
Aww, Mrs _Overall, try and hang on in there. At least you've got the Summer in front of you. All the best to you.

Thanks tambo. I have short hair and the neck brace comes half way up my head, plus, I couldn't stand anyone else touching my head as it it so painful where I bashed it. Also, the brace is lined with a foam insert and it would be awful if it got wet. It has rubbed my chin raw already and I simply don't want it damp.
I liquidize some foods, such as a beef stew I made the other day and I am making a different soup every day which is also liquidized. Today I had a yearning for fish & chips which I persevered with. I think they would have been awful if they had been in the blender!

Thanks patsy.

Islay, funnily enough one of my friends raved about orajel about half an hour ago on the phone. Mr O will be hotfooting it to the chemists tomorrow morning to buy some
you won't regret it - hope you get will soon
Question Author
Islay, who is Will? I'll have you know I am a happily married woman! lol
Ah go on....take Islay's advice.....Will might take your mind off the brace.... or I could wash your hair for you?...x
No offence but my first though when reading this was that you had one of the "lampshades" on - don't know if you saw the episode of off their rockers with the chap eating an ice cream wearing a "lampshade" - can't remember if it was the UK or US version!

Hope I haven't made you laugh then hurt too much!
