In Greek, the first two letters - A and B - are called 'alpha' and 'beta'. Just put the two together!
In addition, the Hebrew "alphabet" is often called the alefbet, becasue the first two letters of the alphabet are Alef and Bet... intersting since Hebrew predates Greek by many centuries.  Ancient Hebrew was a rather simple language, having a vocabulary of only about 30,000 words, compared to over 250,000 for the Greek...(modern English has over 300,000)...
dimpy, impress your teacher and read the book Language Visible by David Sacks on the history of the alphabet.
