A few bad pits in it, obviously been disposed of.
Is there anything will return it to a flat surface, other than hours and hours of rubbing steel against it. ?
The little area that isn't pitted is fabulous for sharpening stuff.

Hi there: You should be able to buy a 'dressing wheel' – at least, I think that's what they were called a few years ago ... a good hardware shop/tool shop should be able to offer advice ...
