"Tick" symbol?

Please could someone advise me which font and letter to use for the 'tick' symbol, as in 'correct'!?

I thought I'd used Wingdings before, but can't seem to find it now.

Thanks, if you can help.

You will need a font with the tick symbol within it. If you do not have Wingdings that is unusual, but I suspect you may be able to search for it and download it from the Net somewhere.

Check what fonts you have by running charmap. You can then use charmap to copy any symbol to the paste buffer and paste it wherever you wish.
If you look for the 'symbol' option under 'insert', you don't need to fiddle with wingdings.
Thanks Mosiac for this tip. You learn something every day! I have never known how to put the half symbol, so that's very useful. It only seems to work with Word documents though, can I put it in emails or on Answerbank?
Doesn't that depend on which application you are using and whether it has an insert menu option ?
You can also get ½ by using the alt key and number pad - for ½, hold down alt key and press 0189.
If you have webdings it's lower case a that has the tick.

If only I could remember to do it, I could copy and paste all manner of symbols from here http://fsymbols.com/
