Being 67 and a disabled pensioner I have always defended the elderly, but i was sorely tested today with a general display of impatience, ignorance and bad manners, where was all this , why the local garden centre which is not used to such geriatric hooliganism.

I don't think it always has to be down to age....just ignorance!
They may have been elderly....but rude all of their life.
I see many in training for this everyday!

I would rather not go into detail tony, as i said general bad manners.
Bad mannered old people make me chuckle.
Bad manners in any age make me fume.
Ok owdhamer, I respect that.
i see it all the time, in many young people, and those not aware that you should give up a seat on a bus, train for someone who needs it more than you. Like the elderly, frail, i do so why can't others.

Some old people are in constant pain. It kinda makes them grumpy.

well you have just proved why you shouldnt defend people based on age. Does that mean you'd defend elderley over young even if the youngster was right?
get your own back ..take the rubber stops off the feet of their zimmer frames.

I do voluntary work in a charity shop and we get a few school kids volunteering. I am always amazed by how polite and considerate they are. Most kids are like that - nice and normal. But some of the older customers can be a bit short with them, one kid was very upset by the ear bashing that was handed out by an old couple.

Manners are important - do unto others as you would have them do unto you...
most younger people are fitter than your average pensioner, so would expect them to give up a seat on the bus. I notice not only the younger ones doing it, but the middle aged too, those who are able bodied, and will let an elderly person not in good health struggle down the bus to find a seat. I will always offer mine, even if i am not in good nick myself. It is polite and how i was brought up.
Some elderly are grumpy i grant you, but i would rather see they are seated than have a fall on the bus.
