Video Camera to Pc

I have a Sony video camera, i want to upload my videos from My Video Camera to MyPC but i am unsure how to do this. can anyone explain how and what software i will need (if needed).

Is this an Analogue Camcorder ... or DV Cam?
If DV Cam .. Start Moviemaker (if you have XP or later) and select import .. capture device ... Camera should be connected by 1394 (Firewire) to the PC firewire connection. USB IS possible but slow and unreliable.
