Going to Turkey. Any helpful advice?
We are a family of four going to Gumbet in Turkey in July. Any reccomendations, advice etc? Do you have to have any innoculations. Mosquitoes? Cost of eating/drinking out? Anything else you think might be helpful. Cheers.

we went to Side last year, we didnt need any vaccinations.
Mosquitos were about but many hotels have traps for them, cover up of use repellant at night.
We didnt eat out much as were all inclusive but a meal for 7 of us (4 adults, 3 kids) was about £90 in a sea view restuarant, including drinks.
There is a fee of £10 to pay at the airport when you arrive. make sure you have a £10 for each person ready with your passport.

But seriously, Gumbet itself has to all intents and purposes been totally destroyed by tourism, almost as badly as parts of the Balearics or Cyprus. The old town has all but disappeared so, unless you're going for the nightlife, you'll need to get out and about.
Whatever you do, though, visit the ruins at Bodrum...

I've been to Turkey several times, including Gumbet. I found the Turks to be very friendly and fond of children. They like to chat and many are football fanatics who know as much about the Premier League as the average English fan.
Practice saying 'No Thank You' with a smile....you will get stopped many times by street sellers, people trying to get you into their restaurant etc. Take it in your stride, they are just trying to make a living, and are used to being refused. I was always amused by the way they recognised different nationalities...passing a reataurant, I was addressed in English without my opening my mouth, and as I moved on heard the same guy address the people behind me in German, and, on returning past the same restaurant heard the same guy tackling an elderly couple in French!
Taxis were fairly cheap, as are the Dolmus vehicles which are 'public transport' minibuses, normally white. I assume that you will visit nearby Bodrum, try to visit some of the other smaller places on the penninsula, and try a day or half-day on a gulet, being a motor /sailing vessel which can carry 12 to 20 tourists. Be prepared to haggle over the price, and always haggle if you are buying anything else. Turkey is a fun destination and I would go again, hope this helps
