I like the line "This was somewhat higher than he would normally expect"

Really, are they saying 1.4million a month isn't normal pay for co-op staff :)
Yes she does...

Thinking about it...you know you'd obviously have to pay it back eventually...but...if you feigned ignorance for a while, could you keep the interest you accrued before they cottoned on? Or would they cotton on immediately you think?
I suppose you would have to pay the interest back as well as it's the co-ops interest.

yeah I guess ummmm.

Can't believe they only give him a crate of beer for it either, miserable sods....lol
Although it may be a little different for 1.4million, you'd be surprised what places will let you keep if they make a mistake rather than risk the bad publicity coming out about the mistake.

obviously not the Co-op though Chuck. Knew i worked for a tight ar$ed company ;-)
I can't help thinking their payroll dept are going to be answering some awkward questions.
I don't think he would have had to pay back any interest.

It's a simple debt. There were no terms as to repayment of interest (obviously).

And yes, a crate of beer is very mean.

It's not stealing.

The Co-op would have a civil right to recover the money, that's all.

It would be like me putting £20 through your letterbox, and then phoning the Police to claim you had stolen it from me.
The cigarettes example was Handling Stolen Goods.
JJ, feel free to try the £20 through my letter box and calling the police, just to see what they say.

reckon you will need to repeat the experiment several times to get a clear idea of what they would say though.
LOL chuck ! ... x
i bet it was co-op own brand beer
Just think of all the Veuve they could buy with that....
"I know someone who picked up loads of cigarette s in the street after the local pub had be broken in.
The police came and caught him with them as he was going home so he was charged and fined for it. "

a local pub was broken into here and all that was taken was cash and cigarettes from the machine. The poilice said that they wouldnt be able to arrest anyone and the cigarettes and cash would be untraceable.
