Just thinking about that as I LOVE my job and the folk that I work with, we work very hard but at the same time we like a good laugh and my boss is one of the funniest guys I've ever met.

Hi Haysi,

This time 2 years ago I was having a really bad time at work where I was being bullied by my boss and felt like I could never do anything right. Things have changed a lot since then and my current boss is great along with the rest of my colleagues.

They are really lovely and always playing jokes.

I feel like I've known them for ages whereas I've only been there a few months

Hi haysi and tiggerblue and 10 clarion, hope you are all well.

I am the boss, and so it is sometimes harder to be everything to all staff! I have to be abit tough sometimes and not give in to every holiday request or favour one member of staff and not another, I am not over friendly with any of them butt i do appreciate them and try to be fair to everyone. We are actually going through a very bad time at work though, and I am finding it very hard to keep everyone motivated and loyal. I am expecting redundencies soon as Debs are not renewing the concession contract, and this means we are all going to have to support one another through a tough few weeks, I feel responsible for the information and communication between my companty and the staff and it is so hard it is depressing me.
Where I work, there's about 40 odd people - I have no enemies as such, but there are two or three there for whom I have no time.
Hi haysi
I am in charge of the team but we have worked together for quite a while now and we make a very good team. We all get along very well and they actually make the job bearable at the moment as they are all very supportive.
get along good with workmates,But the managers are bitches,we have 2 of them
I think you can get that vibe anywhere postdog, but when it comes down to it, everyone is just as importamt as everyone else and there are no favourites when it comes to time to close the doors and lay people off, it's a great leveller.
Hi Dot,

That must be very hard for you. Is there anyway that you can leave it up to natural wastage? We have done that in the past. Staff leave and we don't replace them. It makes more work for the rest of the workers but at least no one is made redundant. It could be a much more drawn out process though.
dot and bens i want yous to be my bosses

Hiya Tiggs (just said hi on my other thread too xx), thats a shame and I am so glad that you're being treated better now. I abhor bullies.

Hello 10ClarionSt, so nice to see you! I do pop on now and again but not very much. Hope you are well :)

crazycathy2, it's good to enjoy work, we spend a great deal of time there and its better if its a nice atmosphere isnt it?

Hi dot xx Its tough times especially for managers, its can be difficult not to get down as you'll be thinking of your staff and what lies ahead for them.

Hello postdog, I work in a very small team withing a very large organisation and we travel away a lot - we socialise a lot too and we all enjoy each others company which is a blessing.
I am a manager of 2 staff, one of which never wants to take on more duties. My workload has doubled in the last 6 months and I have tried giving her some extra work to help me out but isn't being very helpful. She always wants a bonus but doesn't want to work for it!

lol noway, well chances are I will be looking for another job! I am in the same situation as all my staff, the whole company is pulling out of Debs. for contractual reasons, every dept. in every Debs., it's come as a shock, I have no idea what will happen yet. The future is very unsure and I am very upset and bothered by it, loyalty and commitment and hard work count for nothing when these big firms get involved.
Dot, the reason I have no time for them is that they are lazy and selfish. Some of our work has to be done as a team (like morning sorting) and most pull their weight - these don't, so in my book, I couldn't give a toss.
what do you do noway?
Yeah its all about being a good team as you spend a lot of time with these folk,so its all about making an extra effort to keep the wheels in motion running smoothly cos if yopu dont get on,something will have to give!

In retail 10 Clarion we have to avoid certain weeks and busy times as that is when we need all hands on deck so to speak, it can be quite restrictive with no holidays allowed in december and january and then again over the summer when we have sales and promotion days. I get 7 weeks h9oliday a year, but looks like this year i'll end up not entitled as i don't think the company will be trading in debs in the autumn : ((

I used to "manage managers" and it was a nightmare to begin with as I was new and a lot younger than them, I earned their respect and learned a few lessons on the way!
