I know, I know, but i'll wait for Jayne. I don't want to get a Geezer Fatwa!
1. Four?

2. A player who is in touch? I'm thinking hard, but I can't think of an answer, and I'm not seeing any of my men friends who know about rugby for a few days.

Would it be if the player is tackled into touch illegally, and is awarded a penalty try ????

Jayne Jayne Jayne, this is a good un.

1. Originaly a try was worth 0 it merely earn't a try at goal. Even now a converted try is called a goal. After a while the game started to recognise that he effort required to earn a "TRY" was worth some reward so they made it 3 (I think from memory)

2. Law 22.4(g) http://www.irb.com/mm/Document/LawsRegs/0/LAW2 2_4536.pdf
yes, a 'try' at goal that you could 'convert' into points.

When the rules were first changed, tries were worth one point

Hi Geezer...I knew 1)

But 2.....does that mean a winger for example who is standing in touch, can aplly pressure to a ball that has bobbled over the goal line and a try is scored even if he is STILL in touch?
looks that way, sqad - never heard that one before
jno....seems odd to me, but Law22.4(g) seemed to indicate that..........naaaah! surely not.....if you are in touch, then you are not in the field of play and surely you can't score a try if you are off the field.
Question Author
yes sqad that's exactly what it means, a ref mate of mine told me and I thought he was taking he pi55 until I checked my own law Book! Not sure of the reasoning behind it but it's in there!
Thanks RIG
