I have a 2004 basic Vauxhall Agila and we have misplaced one set of keys. Is it possible just to purchase a replacement from a locksmith or is there some electronic element involved that means I'll have to go to the dealer to buy a new set?

Hi, you say you have lost one set of keys does this tell me you have another? If so take the second set to a car spares shop that will make up with the fob a new set, try and do this with out using the dealer as they will charge you a 100+

Thanks TWR. Yes, I still have one set of keys. The fob seems very simple and if there's some electronic gadgetry in it, it's pretty well hidden. I was pretty sure that the dealers would charge through the nose as they do for everything else so I'll look for an independent spares shop.
the key will be chipped, so will therefore require some sort of reprogramming

Thanks dm1982. Ah well. I'll just have to stump up or be very careful with the existing key.
Hi again Mike, Did you get sorted with a Replacement key? If not,& depending where you are in the UK this person will help you out, codedcarkeys.com the bloke is called David Mobile 07951 045929 I am in Lancs & this person is from the Local area. Regards Trebor.

Hi Trebor, unfortunately I stay in Fife so it would probably cost more to visit Lancs than it would to buy a new key. We're actually thinking about changing to a newer model so it might prove more economical just to wait until we do so. We would probably have changed already but used Agilas don't seem to come onto the market all that often for some reason or other. As it seems to be aimed at the grey market, maybe we oldies just hang onto our cars longer
No problem Mike, Glad to offer advice like all A.Bs do, & I think we all are a load of old Fats on here (I will get some stick over that last comment LOL. Regards Trebor.
