My car was driven into whilst parked outside my house, by an uninsured driver who had taken his sister's motability car without permission. The police have caught him as he crashed her car too. My car is a write-off. Even though I have fully comprehensive insurance, my insurers wont provide a courtesy car as it's not repairable. I need a car to be able to do my job. Is there any central fund which will help me get a courtesy car in the short term as this is urgent? It would be just until the claim is paid out and I can get a new car. The MIB website says it can only help as a last resort if there is no other way to claim compensation. Also, will I lose my no claims discount now?
Your Ins will only provide a car if you have taken out the extended cover for car hire - Cost about 20 per year - As for you NCB, if your Ins Co can't recover their costs then that would affect your NCB, as you are making an unrecoverable claim. Do you have your NCB protected?
Nope.
I only have 2 years NCB anyway but every little helps and it doesnt seem fair to me that I lose out when it was clearly not my fault.
To make matters worse, the guys mother came to the house to say he was under stress cos he couldnt see his daughter and had "issues" so he will probably get away with it.
He hasnt got a job anyway so there's no point pursuing a private claim against him as any compensation the courts award probably wont arrive.
As far as the loss of your NCB goes, wickedwench I understand your frustration. However, you must bear in mind that it is a no claims bonus, not a no blame bonus.
If you make a claim where your insurers cannot recover their outlay you must expect your NCB to suffer.
