Why, when washing bed clothes does everything end up inside the duvet cover?

Just wondered.

This doesn't answer your question but I do up the buttons on the bottom of the duvet cover before putting it into the machine - it stops this happening!
I do the poppers and buttons up too,
.....and, as somebody once asked on here, when you've finished washing the dishes and let the water out, why is there always a teaspoon left in the bottom of the sink??
...and when you tumble dry a load, why is there always one sleeve cuff turned in on itself, and still wet?
....and why, after you've thrown something away, you really need it in a week's time?
