basically a teacher said to my partially deaf child, following a very minor incident when my daughter genuinely didnt hear her "are you deaf or something "I have written a stinker to the headmaster and am absolutely fuming, I want the bloody woman sacked, although i know this wont happen. What does anybody else think? i will post the full details of the incident if any body wants to hear it to make their decision.

Ignore the above post from Julie555 - it does not merit a response.
Did this teacher know your child has a hearing problem? If so then yes, it was unforgivably insulting and you are quite right to ask for a full apology to both you and your child.

But if she did not know of your child's problem, then although she could have responded to the situation with a little more tact and patience, I don't think it deserves a dismissal.
I think it would be fair to ask to speak to this teacher about the incident, and let her know how upset you are. She may be genuinely sorry if she has caused you and your child offence, and I'm sure she would apologise.
Hope my opinion helps you to decide what to do. Good luck and let us know how you got on.
I am too are deaf and I remember my school days very well.
My science teacher was an Indian lady and if I did not hear what she said, She used to send me out in to the corridor.
French was an absolute nightmare, in fact none of the teachers were equipped back then to dealing with a deaf pupil.
My Mum went up the school many times and even reported them to the Education department.
So don't let it be, do take it further and discuss the matter with the head teacher.
As a calss teacher myself, all teachers should know of any impairment a child in their class should have, and in this case if it was their regular teacher you should make a huge song and dance about it. On the other hand if it was a supply teacher they may not have realised but I would still create a big issue out of it as no teacher should say this to any pupil they are in charge of.

Thanks to you all. Yes this is her regular teacher and is well aware of her problems, this is why i am so incensed. All her other teachers are excellent, making sure she sits at the front, asking her if she can hear when they start speaking, and always stress that she must say so if she cant hear. She has attempted to apologise today, but hannah said her tone was very abrupt and she was only saying it because a complaint had been recieved, and her opening line was "I want a word with you" in front of the whole class! So I am going to take this as far as it will go, will keep you informed. Must just add we had an issue about homework following parents evening last week, I wanted an answer to a couple of questions, this woman phoned and spoke to my husband, who found her to have an extremely unpleasant telephine manner, I wonder if this is her way of getting back at Hannah because I dared to question something!! seems coincidental to me ??
My sympathies to funnygirl, how awful your schooldays must have been.lol
