Geronimo is to be put to sleep tomorrow.

I agree that, if he has TB he should be destroyed, but what if his owner is right and the test is flawed.

It's not really just about one animal amongst thousands that are slaughtered daily it's about the heavy-handedness and inflexible government rules (not just the Tories or the UK govt).

I can see tomorrow's CB - 'What's for Dinner?'

Shame they can't come up with a definitive test.....if he is positive, then, okay, he has to go. TB is not a pretty disease for farm animals
No - it's about one animal in this case. Too much fuss about it.
If the tests are flawed I do not think that there has been too much fuss. Hopefully those involved will continue to lobby to have more research undertaken to ensure that the tests become specific enough for camelidae.

I have never accepted that Geronimo was purely a pet, he was brought here from New Zealand to a breeder of alpacas. The poor animal has not had the life he should have enjoyed.

If he has TB and he were my pet I would have him euthanized.

It's the uncertainty that makes it sad for the owner.
I just hope he is euthanized with as little discomfort as possible whilst maybe being hugged by his owner and gnawing a nice juicy apple.
Quite so, Leon.
It's terribly sad and that's why you shouldn't make pets of your farm animals. Too sad when they go to slaughter, test positive for TB, foot and mouth etc.
Arh that’s so sad, I’ve been out all afternoon so not seen any news
Unfortunately it is the right decision
I can’t believe the amount of fuss over a single piece of livestock, and I’m astonished it went to court.
It’s not just a piece of livestock. It’s about love and trust and compassion. If post-mortem analysis confirmed TB. Then sadly the correct response was followed. If not, then something in us all is somehow diminished.
Desk - forget the plight of Africans or whoever trying to swim the Channel or the Ghurkas and their pension issue, this is about a furry animal on four legs that could easily be seen on a Hamley's toy shelf as he looks cuddly...and what doe we Brits do but go all gooey and 'aaaah' - all sense and rationality disappearing out of our minds at times.

After all, a llama-lovers comment to a fellow llama-lover is ' You're my best pal-paca....' I'll get me wool coat...
David small -"It's about love and trust and compassion." How does that equate with your comment at 20:27 on the Afghan refugees post or were you just joking?
I really can't see why a 'crowd-funded'; TB test should not be done. His owner has a fair point. At least he has no idea. As someone has said, it is not important compared to the fear felt by some in Afghanistan - or is it? If we ignore tiny injustices (or possible injustices) should we not ignore others? Of course, we have no control over Afghanistan, but I'm a bit bothered by the principle. One can do what one can do.
David small at 8.24pm. I may be being pedantic, but it is a piece of livestock - The British Alpaca Society calls Alpacas livestock, so that’s good enough for me; it’s as much as a pet as a Cow is.
DD- //it’s as much as a pet as a DOG is.

Corrected that for you mate.
How many livestock do we kill every day?
Poor Geronimo. Let’s hope it’s painless.
