I was a bit confused by the Sawyer thing last night. I know his name is not Sawyer and he was the boy who hid under the bed when his mum was killed. Why did he shoot that man last night? Surely the killer committed suicide after he murdered his mum. Can someone please explain.

because of what sawyer did, the lads father shot his mum then committed suicide(it's painless),years later he shot that geezer in revenge then realized he'd been duped
the guy that commited suicide was 'sawyers' dad, not the guy he later shot.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who was confused with this - my husband had to explain it to me a couple of times!

"Sawyers" family were duped years ago by a confidence trickster and his dad shot his mum then shot himself on the bed whilst "Sawyer" was under it.

"Sawyer" was then led to believe by the informer character that the guy on the shrimp van was the Sawyer the confidence trickster who he shot. Turns out that the guy he shot wasn't Sawyer the trickster & was just some guy who was owe the "informer" money.

So in other words, "Sawyer" was conned into doing the informer's dirty work & killed the guy for owing money. Opps!

Hope that is correct & helpful.

The original Sawyer conman not only conned money but managed to do it by sleeping with the woman. This woman turns out to be the Island Sawyers mum and when his dad finds out in a jealous rage goes and kills her and then himself in the bedroom above his sons bed. That son grows up to be the Island Sawyer people know now. A acquaintance of his that betryaed him in the past over a job then gives Island Sawyer details of the Conman that conned his family and caused his dad to kill the mum and himself in return of calling it even for stabbing sawyer in the back...he claimed the conman Original Sawyer that caused it all was the man at the shrimp van. Sawyer then works up the courage and finally shoots him in revenge for causing the damage to his family in the past, only to find out that the man he shot isnt anything to do with his family, wasnt the conman and was merely someone that owed money to Island Sawyers aquaintance and didnt pay up. Island Sawyer realised he was conned into killing some bad debtor beliving he was the Original Sawyer that destroyed his families life.

Thank you all, that has cleared that one up. I'm sure I will have more questions later. One other thing. Some fella at work was saying that the whispering in the jungle that Island Sawyer hears, relates to the final words of the dead shrimp man. Is this true?
Its quite possible. Remember when Boon had his hallucination about Shannon, he told Locke and Locke asked him something like "is that what it (the Island) showed you?" It appears to me that the island does something subjective to each individual yet it appears that only Locke, and perhaps now Boon, is aware of this. Saeed and Sawyer have heard the whispering but I would wager that the actual words heard by each man would be different. I so love this show.
