Anyone old enough to remember the 1964 US Presidential election where Barry Goldwater was up against Lyndon Johnston ?
Goldwater was supposed to have a 'secret following' of voters who would come out in droves on polling day to sweep him to the Whitehouse.
In the end as we all know, Johnston won by a landslide .

The perceived wisdom at the the time was if JFK had lived he may well have lost against Goldwater

When I think of Lyndon B Johnson I always remember the Tommy Lehrer song 'Whatever became of Hubert' in reference to Hubert Humphrey who was LBJ's VP

Read the last verse!
"Is it a plane, is it a bird?" - I remember that bit of his presidential campaign.

Hubert I mean.
