A firm given the cleaning contract at the Welsh Government HQ uses zero hours contracts......hardly the same thing as you suggest.

personlly i don't see what's wrong with zero hours contracts at all. They can be very helpful if you want flexibility
They can be, but some on here were very quick to condemn Sports Direct for using them
If they are an 'option' for an employee to take advantage of, that's one thing; unfortunately, many companies seem minded that they are the way forwards and impose them on employees.
Agreed. Very difficult to police though.
Many people seem to like zero hours contracts. For example J D Wetherspoon has well over 90% of its staff on such contracts but the company repeatedly wins awards as one of the UK's best employers, based largely upon the input of those very same staff.
some people like them (as I recall, factor fiction does). Then again, some people are not given the choice, and that is the situation which draws criticism.
Could it be that the staff are too 'scared' to say otherwise ?

Zero hour contacts can be a god send for parents with young kids...as long as the company you work for has plenty of work on offer.
