Ah, my OH remembers that smog living in London. He is more healthy than he should be, being very overweight, drinking loads etc. I don't think there are really any long term effects. We know lots of people who lived in London at that time. They are all ok.

I remember the London fogs. The Clean Air Act was enacted the year before I was born. but we were still getting thick fogs for some time after that. I was at primary school. Schools couldn’t close early because most mothers worked. We used to get crocced home by teachers and the children whose parents were not at home were left in the care of nearby families where there was someone at home. Traffic would slow to a crawl or even come to a standstill

The fog in London was nothing compared to Stoke on Trent. Not only did someone have to walk with a torch in front of a car (honestly I have done it) so that the driver could inch along, but the fog left you wringing wet with soot and black specs all over you like freckles.
