Only 'poor' if you're a vegatarian.
Part of the food chain.
They are ex battery hens. They have lead a very sad, horrible, existence. This is a chance to give them a nice life.

They will also continue to lay eggs, just not in sufficient quantities for the battery units.

I wish I could take a couple. I've always wanted to keep chickens.
ummmm, just reread the story, I origanally missed the bit about them been battery hens. Ive worked on a farm (with quiet a lot of free range hens) and ive always found battry farming unpalatable.
However, food is still food no matter how unpalatible we find it.
they are down here, sharon, 400 yards oop the lane....

Only if no other options are available/affordable.

But these chickens are going to be put down!! Not end up in Iceland!!
Is this T.I.C.? If they have had a sad life then best end it for them. They will taste the same in a cassoulet wherever they came from. :-)
I'd love to have a bit of land- id happily take on some.

I'm not a vegetarian but I have empathy for other living things.
So YES "poor" IMO - unless of course someone provides them with a nice home.
roasted or in a casserole, cop? I like the way the French go with a lovely slow 'coq au vin.'
D'accord. Bon appetite and merci Messieur/Madame Poulet :-)
I love how these anti-veg types always feel a need to swagger around with their carnivory just to prove a point. It's usually blokes that do it "Nah one's ever gonna come between me and moi steak!"

Your point is?
A bit dated and extremist but has a point...

Just a t-i-n-y bit of sensitivity towards those here who don't exclusively see chickens/pigs/cows etc etc as walking slabs of "food" Nailit.

Yeah, your right.
avec une bouteille de Fixin, cop ou, peut-être , un Chirouble profondeur ou un Moulin à Vent.
Why are you speaking in French again? Besides trying to show off what is the point?
