Have come up in crossword clues today. Can we take it as read that they're areas not bathed by refreshing scent-laden breezes?

i'm not rushing to book a holiday at either of them
And I have to admit that I'm really, really reluctant to visit Cape Fear.

And Cape Wrath, in the far north of Scotland, doesn't sound the most pacific of places.
That's because, Sandy, it's no place near the Pacific:)
The odour it seems is volcanic based.

Stench Point (56°18′S 27°36′WCoordinates: 56°18′S 27°36′W) is a conspicuous point forming the west extremity of Zavodovski Island, South Sandwich Islands. The feature was named West Bluff in 1930 by DI personnel on the Discovery II, but the name has been changed to avoid duplication. The new name applied by United Kingdom Antarctic Place-Names Committee (UK-APC) in 1971 refers to the evil-smelling volcanic fumes emitted in this vicinity.
I've heard that Lake Placid, especially during the Summer, is quite a beautiful and tranquil place to visit.
