Hardly any surprise given today's limp justice system and a total disrespect for other people.

If the Police even bother to look for them and prosecute them, they will get a few hours community service that they wont do and no one will follow up on.
They will steal plates off of war memorials and plaques from crematoriums, so we should not be surprised by this. Other statures, artwork by Henry Moore have been taken in the past.
In view of the value of scrap metal now it might be better if statues in the future are made of stone.

They appear to have bothered afteral YMB !

He was much loved but vandals have no respect or understanding of that. String them up by their toenails I say ! (I could say worse, but this is a family site)
One man's heroic iconic statue is another man's free source of scrap metal - so no change there.
it could have been a statue of anybody, all the despicable thief saw was 'bronze'
Well that's a start Mickey, my apologies to teh boys in Blue for my previous remark.

Now lets see what the liberal justice system does with them
Saw this over the weekend. If "they'll" steal war memorial plaques I can not be surprised at an attempt at a statue. Not very wise.
The perpetrator is actually mentally ill - but that of course doesn't put off the Hang-em-shoot-em-flog-em Brigade from making their vicious vindictive comments. One sometimes wonders who are the most evil.
Canary, from the original article that was not known, the post with that was put up just as the only post with any comment on what should eb done to them was posted.

Why dont you get off your ruddy high horse and get a life. You never comment on the topic simply snipe at others. What is wrong with you ?
/// Lancashire Constabulary said it is thought someone attempted to cut through one of the legs of the statue. ///

Eh, only thought?

I am no Sherlock Holmes but anyone can see from the photograph that the leg has seen some attention from an angle grinder.
I'm not sure that the mentally ill are evil, even compared to hang'em, shoot -'em, flog-em brigade, Canary42.
Or did your fount of outrage just overflow into life?

Thanks ymb. I too hope that this person arrested is charged and found guilty, but like you, I am not holding my breath.

I have been listening to the Morecambe and Wise show on Radio 4 extra lately, and I had forgotten how good they were.

On another side issue, Eric was asked once by a TV interviewer what he and Ernie would have been if they had not been the successful comedy duo that they were. Quick as a flash, Eric came back with " Mike and Bernie Winters"

True class !

YMB...don't be so nasty to canary ! There are people that you could have a go at here on AB that deserve it far more.... like me for instance :-)
"Eric Morecambe Statue Damaged"

On a list of most peoples priorities and things to be concerned about, stretching to multiple sheets of A4, I'd be suprised if this even gets on it.......
Old_Geezer, I'm wondering if anyone caught on to your "wise" comment?:)
I know he was from the area and everything, but surely a more appropriate statue would have been one that featured both Morecombe and Wise?
Wise is still alive, and you don't really get a lot of statues to the living (same with postage stamps). Think of all the Jimmy Savile statues they'd be having to pull down.
Little Ern died in 1999.
