/// Wise is still alive, and you don't really get a lot of statues to the living (same with postage stamps). ///

Ernie Wise died in 1999, and the Queen is not dead is she?
blimey, so he did - how did I miss that? Maybe I was thinking of Ronnie Corbett or something.

Wise died in 1999

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernie_Wise
Ernest Wiseman, OBE (27 November 1925 – 21 March 1999), known by his stage name Ernie Wise,
nobody much else on the stamps, though, aog, at least until fairly recently. There was a thread about it last month, I think, but I can't find it.
Ronnie Corbett's still with us. He advertises food for oldies on afternoon TV now.
After the heights he reached during his career that must seem like a kind of Limbo.
I remember crying when Eric Morecambe died.

//I know he was from the area and everything, but surely a more appropriate statue would have been one that featured both Morecombe and Wise?//

Possibly because Ernie Wise came from Bramley (Leeds) about 70+ miles away!

Just found this :::

Eric quick as a flash at 07:21 !
The culprit made a meal of it but nowhere near as good as the duo's Breakfast Sketch of '76!
If Dermot o'Leary ever had a statue I think I'd vandalise that.
Lol Sandy, Re Ronnie Corbett //after the heights he reached during his career//
all 4'11"?

Baldric, Ernie lived not far away from my Dad, he was eight years younger than him. Dad died same year as Ern too. I only live a few miles away from there.
Despicable indeed :o(

lol Calibax !
Should these things be put up anyway .They never look like who the are supposed to be .Mount Rushmore should have been the last , it will never be bettered .Most places seem to think they need the awful steel .(need to be explained eyesores ) money could be spent more wisely .
Disagree weecalf.

Eric's statue is a very good likeness of him and it does raise a smile from Morecambes many visitors who delight in having their photos taken alongside it.

Do we have to "do away" with everything that's pleasing because it's cost a few quid to make?
How are they scrapping this metal now you have to be registered to do so?
I had a photo taken beside Greyfriars Bobby, now he was funny
Funny?

It's an incredibly sad 'story' behind that statue- I personally wouldn't find it funny!

Weecalf, do your homework before you try to be Funny
Eric or Bobby
