We haven't got a financial funeral plan with an insurance company, but the plans for our funerals are all laid out, and lodged with our Wills with our solicitor.
Why?
I don't blame them, funeral costs have historically come out of the deceased's estate, why ever would you want a funeral plan?
I'm spending my money while I am here, when I am dead my family can hold the world's cheapest funeral - I won't know anything about it anyway.
What happens of you haven't got an Estate, Kvalidir?
The state will give you a pauper's funeral if you have no estate (or that's what I believe anyway).
No, no. The kids can club together and pay for it, the cheapest way possible.

Snap, sherr.
We don't have a funeral plan. Mic has always said he doesn't want a funeral. Just take me to the crem and burn me were his words. Should he die before me I will abide by his wishes.
Even if there is an estate the beneficiaries don't have to pay for a funeral. If nobody will take responsibility the council has to pick up the tab for a Public Health Funeral.
Jeza, I'm having exactly the same. Cardboard coffin delivered to the 'backdoor' of the crem in a van, cremation without service. No embalming, no viewing of my body, no memorial
We have savings and a house which will pay for a funeral - I don't trust whoever I may set a funeral plan up with to be still trading when we pop our clogs - could be the next financial scandal - or am I being cynical?
I can well understand that, granny grump, although I'm sure safeguards are in place but can we trust the safeguards?
cardboard coffins are expensive at least £300 ! A body bag is all that is required to deliver a body to the crem back door. I have seen them on ebay for as little as £15 each.
£100 for a cardboard coffin and a shroud is cheaper than that- look at this witty bunch :)

I would ask everyone to consider a 'Whole Body' donation to their nearest university.
Rattle my bones over the stones
I'm only a pauper nobody owns.
I couldn't afford one.
I can buy a full sized cardboard coffin for under £50. I would not expect anyone to manhandle me in a body bag, it's not fair on the staff.
As far as I know all crematoria require a coffin:

With cremation a coffin is essential to allow us to place the body into the cremator. The base of the coffin must be smooth and hard to enable it to be placed onto the rollers and into the cremator safely.
>>>Even if there is an estate the beneficiaries don't have to pay for a funeral. If nobody will take responsibility the council has to pick up the tab for a Public Health Funeral.

That's not wholly correct. If nobody comes forward to organise a funeral then, as Hc4361 states, the local council is obliged to pay for a basic one. If there's no estate the council simply foots the bill. However if there is an estate the law enables the council to recoup their outlay from that estate.
Funerals are for the living.

Over 450 people turned up for my dads funeral (the priest told me) that is really comforting.
