Between 5 and 10 years ago there was a series on tv which involved various church members being horifically killed. One of them was skinned. The back story was actually good. I think one nun was killed taking a shower, something in the shower head. There could have been a sauna involved, and loads of scenes in the church, gut feeling is was a BBC channel. Sorry it's a bit vague.

Two series come to mind, although it might be neither. It could have been Apparitions starring Martin Shaw. There was another series called Strange, which could also fit your description.
