Is it now time for National Service to be brought back?

http://tinyurl.com/6b5bqqf

With numerous ex-service camps now becoming vacant due to the decrease in military spending, the fears of the increase of obesity amongst our young, no jobs to go to when leaving school and judging by this report the unfitness among our young, the time is now perfect for the introduction of a National Service scheme.

This need not be a military based National Service, more of a skills training service.

Upon leaving school both boys and girls would be obliged to leave their home surrounding and be shipped to these camps, which would be run by all those redundant service personal and older experienced tradesmen, who are finding it hard to get a job due to their age.

Before anyone says "how is the country going to pay for this scheme"? Well taking into account the savings in the various spin-offs of this scheme, it would be almost self financing.

lets deal with these layabouts first
trigger: you haven't actually undermined AOG's argument at all. You've just complained about his language and responded in a fairly knee-jerk fashion. Stop it - you're borderline trolling.
ok, fair enough
aog,

If you reckon my answer's "offensive", I'd take a crash course in German were I you.
It's time the over 50's were shipped out. It would stop them gathering on street corners scaring the kids!
eyethenkyou Before you suggest aog takes a course in German I suggest you get yours right first // Ihre Wunsch ist mein Befehl! // should be " Ihr Wunsch ist mir Befehl " or if you think of him as a friend then " Dein Wunsch " would be appropriate.
Imagine the scene in ten years time from now, Your son will do Two years in an AOG work camp.
Comes out speaking German to a very high standard, polite and clean shaven,

He will be bumping into the AS mob heading into britain as he is heading out to try and find a decent paid job in Germany.

The Germans will be having a go at the French to block the tunnel up to stop the Englanders from coming over and nicking our jobs.
Demands for EU intervention and 'human rights' in middle east, suffering at their internal implosions, will require increased manpower and finance from us.

We spilled blood in the past keeping peace between same countries, and received little thanks, why risk our citizens. If there's a prize (oil wells) then maybe ?

/// Maybe Cameron is already tackling the situation although its for 16+ year olds and could be expanded: ///

If he made it compulsory, then he would be getting somewhere.
how is he going to enforce that then?
Same way it was made enforceable (sp?) in the past?
what was that then?
Dunno, I wasn't around then, believe it or not!

But National Service was mandatory in the past, so it seems it is possible to enforce it, does it not?
we also used to have lead pipes and asbestos in our roofs

Once we were able to smoke in pubs too.

If they stopped their benefits I wonder how many parents would pick up the tab for their living costs at home. If they do start this national service and get some financial benefit there will be many parents out there making their children take it up.

There have been too many carrots under the past Labour government...what they want is more stick!
